WATCH: Ryan Cochrane Ready For Tomorrow’s 400

2016 CANADIAN OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC TRIALS

After an eighth place finish in the 200m freestyle to kick of the 2016 Canadian Olympic Trials, Ryan Cochrane will be competing in one of his best events tomorrow in hopes of making his third Olympic team.

Cochrane will be competing in the 400m freestyle where he’s the top seed and Canadian record holder. It’s no secret that Cochrane has been training for both the 400 and 1500m freestyles, so he should be a huge threat in both races.

Cochrane said that he would like to achieve two medals this summer in Rio, which means that his 400m freestyle will need to be quick in order to compete with the rest of the world.

Last summer, Cochrane finished third in the 400m freestyle to Sun Yang and James Guy with a time of 3:44.59. His Canadian record time of 3:43.46 from the Commonwealth Games would have bumped him up to silver.

So far this season nobody has been under 3:46 and a 3:47-high would crack the top 10 world rankings.

Cochrane stated that he wants to be faster than he’s been at this point in the season before. Last year he was a 3:47.50 to win the 400 freestyle at trials.
