WATCH: Tea Laughlin Rips 52.80 100 Back At CIF-SS Prelims

2018 CIF – SOUTHERN SECTION DIVISION 1

Ventura High School sophomore Tea Laughlin had a very impressive swim in the prelims of the 100 back on Thursday at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 Championships, posting the top time in 52.80. The time was a lifetime best, lowering her previous mark of 53.14 from a year ago, and she’ll head into Saturday’s final looking to improve upon her runner-up finish in 2017. She leads the field by 1.45 seconds, with Huntington Beach freshman Madelyn Harris sitting 2nd in 54.25.

Below, check out a race video of Laughlin’s prelim swim, courtesy of Bryant Lum.

In the preliminary session Laughlin also swam the 200 IM, where she advanced to the final in 6th (2:03.22), and led off the Ventura 200 medley in a blazing 25.04 as they snuck into the B-final in 18th. She led off their 400 free relay in 51.79 before the team ultimately placed 26th. All three of these swims were also lifetime bests.

All of the CIF-Southern Section finals will go off on Saturday, and you can check out a full recap of Thursday’s prelims here. For a comprehensive guide to the California high school section meets, click here.
