WOMEN’S 4×200 FREESTYLE RELAY – FINALS
Team USA closed the session by winning their third Gold medal of the day. The relay team of Chelsea Chenault (1:58.50), Hali Flickinger (1:57.77), Leah Smith (1:59.05), and Shannon Vreeland (1:58.56) combined for new World University Games record time of 7:53.88. The previous record of 7:55.02 was set in 2011 by Team USA. They were the only team this year under the 8 minute barrier.
China and Japan were in a tight race for the silver medal, but China ended up getting their hand on the wall first to secure the silver medal. They finished with a 8:01.09 to Japan’s 8:01.18.
Australia was just off of the podium with their time of 8:04.92, finishing nearly 12 seconds behind the Americans.
