A week after Rio de Janeiro’s city government revealed that construction on the Future Arena, the Olympic Golf Course and the canoe slalom course were 100% complete, it has also released another time-lapse construction-progress video.
As in a similar video released earlier this fall, key venues are showing significant progress and are nearing completion, now that we’re just under 9 months out from the start of the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games. Although not specific to the aquatics-related sites, the video’s progress demonstrates what is widespread and is indicative of how far along the host city has come since amid early worker strikes, pollution concerns and rising costs.
The city estimates that the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, where the competitive pool swimming events will take place, sits at 96% completion. The Olympic and Paralympic Village, soon to be home to approximately 15,000 of the globe’s best athletes is now approaching 97% completion.
You can get a reminder of which events are being held at which venues here.
The Opening Ceremonies kick off on August 5th, now just 250 days away.
The final cost of the construction will be highly inflated. Mark my words.
