WATCH: Vlad Morozov Set New 100 IM World Record In Chartres

In a stellar start to the new season at the 2016 FINA World Cup stop in Chartres, Russian rocket Vlad Morozov blasted his way into the World Record books in the SCM 100 IM. Morozov swam the race in 50.60 seconds, clipping the previous mark of 50.67 set by Markus Deibler at the 2014 Short Course World Championships.

In setting the World Record, Morozov was over a second ahead of anyone else in the field, as 2nd place went to Germany’s Philip Heintz in 51.87. Check out the video of Vlad’s new World Record below, courtesy of FINA’s YouTube channel.

Morozov wasn’t far off the record with his previous best, which he set at 50.77 back in 2014 at the Vladmir Salnikov Cup. In Chartres, he took it out at almost the same speed as he had before, but the difference maker was his 2nd 50, which he improved to a 27.50.

Splits Comparison:

Swimmer 1st 50 2nd 50 Time
Morozov 2016 23.10 27.50 50.60
Deibler 2014 23.32 27.34 50.77
Morozov 2014 23.06 27.71 50.66

Along with the prize money for winning the race, Morozov’s swim earned him a $10,000 bonus check for the World Record, giving him a grand total of $11,500 for a single swim. Coupled with his win in the men’s 100 free earlier in the session, Morozov brought home $13,000 for that day.

I want to watch a race not a mini drama.

What happened to Michael Andrew?
In this World Cup he looked as if he is in in the middle of traditional training block.

Doesn’t USRPT prepare swimmer to swim fast anytime anywhere?

Probably underestimated the length of time between swims…he absolutely died after the first session.

Still some amazing times for a 17 year old, mind

‘It’s a good video, but I think what people really want to see is a closeup of his face while he’s warming down. Just splice that right in the middle. Perfect”

It’s FINA. those buffoons.
IOC is no better. Go have a look at their “Rio Replay” video.
awful. Much Much worse than London. London Olympics videos were uploaded in full.
It’s all done in NBC style now.
They couldn’t even upload in full some of short races.

VLAD “Missing Positive Tests” Morozov breaking a his first world record.
Yeah his performance was real legit and without any sort of performance enhancing aid.
Once a drug cheat, always a drug cheat
Well done FINA, dropping the ball once again.

Vlad hasn’t tested positive yet, but didn’t MA look a little out of sorts in that race. Got smoked by 5 seconds in a 100IM.

SAMUEL HUNTINGTON: you do realize that he was named as part of Russia’s “disappearing positives” scheme? https://staging.swimswam.com/wada-confirms-finding-disappearing-positives-morozov

AND that certain banned substances (though admittedly we don’t know exactly what Morozov tested positive for) potentially give you a lifelong advantage? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/29510575
