- Foshan, Guangdong, China
- Foshan Century Lotus Swimming & Diving Hall
- Live video
- Full day 1 recap here
After CHINADA earlier this month announced just a warning for a Wang Lizhuo positive test for, the 18-year old made his competitive return at the Chinese National Championships with a new Chinese National Record and (unratified) Junior World Record of 59.64.
As reported by Hannah Hecht:
Last week, the China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) announced that six Chinese swimmers had recently tested positive for banned substances. One of those swimmers was Chinese National Record holder and World Junior Record holder Wang Lizhuo, who tested positive for clenbuterol in the fall of 2015. He received only a warning, and his team had to pay a fine. FINA is still considering whether or not to appeal the Chinese agency’s decision.
Amid controversy over CHINADA’s handling of the situation, the Chinese Olympic Swimming Trials rage on. Earlier today Wang, who was born in 1999, broke his own Chinese National Record and World Junior Record in the 100 breaststroke, swimming 59.64 to defend his title from the Chinese Fall National Championships in September. That swim from last season made him both the first Chinese swimmer and the first junior swimmer ever under a minute.
His swim from today also moves him from fifth to fourth in the world rankings, with only Cameron van der Burgh, Adam Peaty, and Felipe Silva sitting ahead of him. Wang is well-within striking distance of Silva’s best time this season, a 59.56. Peaty is second with 59.28 and van der Burgh is the only swimmer under 59 this season with his 58.97 from the FINA World Cup meet in Paris-Chartreus.

That swim was dope.
This time I’m happy I can’t watch easily videos on swimswam with my technical problems.
I would have probably vomited.
That’s a pure scandal if he swims in Rio.
Same for Efimova.
Stop. Enough.
I’m in favor of a 4-year ban for the “small” illicit substances.
And in favor of a life ban for the biggest like HGH, EPO, steroids….
If you took EPO one time, it has helped you to train better, faster and longer. You will have benefits for the rest of your career.
If you took steroids one time, it’s in your body for a very long time and 2 or 4 years later you will continue to compete with that… Read more »
so even if wang lizhuo is getting banned there was another chinese just .3 behind who could help out their medley relay in rio
This is what gives a bad name to our sport:
“Wang Lizhuo, who tested positive for clenbuterol in the fall of 2015. He received only a warning,…”
Also the swimmer that just tested positive for a banned substance!
Just FYI for anybody watching, Wang Lizhuo is the swimmer with no cap in the middle of the pool.
