Two stand-outs from throughout the competition made their marks yet again tonight, as 24-year-old Blair Evans and 19-year-old Brianna Throssell each took an individual gold to close out their SunSmart championships. For Evans, the swimmer representing UWA West Coast clocked a speedy 2:12.58 in the women’s 200m IM to take the title. The time sits just outside of the world’s top ten for the event so far this season.

For Throssell, she followed up her 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly Western Australian records from earlier in the meet with another gold, this time in the women’s splash n’ dash. As one of only two swimmers in the 50m freestyle field who registered sub-26-second marks, Throssell touched in 25.27 for the win over Rockingham’s Holly Barratt, who settled for silver in 25.68.

Additional Winners:

  • 18-year-old Jake Smith (Breakers) wrangled in the men’s 200m IM open win, stopping the clock at 2:07.79.
  • Sydney University’s Te Haumi Maxwell claimed the men’s 50m freestyle victory, touching in 23.04 for the gold.
  • The women’s 200m breaststroke event saw Bay View’s Talara-Jade Dixon surge to the wall first in 2:38.06.
  • Perth City claimed the women’s 400m medley relay, highlighted by a 58.58 fly split by Throssell.
