Western Kentucky Opens 2015 at FIU Relays

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The WKU swimming and diving looks to keep the momentum of 2014 rolling into 2015, as the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers open the new year’s slate at the FIU Relays on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Miami.

Currently in the midst of their annual winter training trip, the competition begins at noon CT in the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.

Both squads roll into Miami carrying multiple top individual times amongst Conference USA schools. With a 4-0 dual meet record this season, the women have three individuals who lead the league in their respective events. Nadine Laemmler is top in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM, ranking in the top 50 nationally in the trio of events. Laemmler is 31st in the 100 back (53.27), 26th in the 200 back (1:54.80) and 30th in the 200 IM (1:58.65). Allie Duff also has a top 50 time in the 400 IM (4:15.13) to lead the league.

Along with Laemmler and Duff, Claire Conlon holds the best time in C-USA in the 100 breast and 200 breast while ranking 41st nationally in the 200 breast (2:13.18).

Though C-USA doesn’t sponsor men’s swimming, the Hilltoppers hold 10 of the best times of C-USA teams, as the team heads into Saturday’s event 3-1 in dual meets and coming back from fifth to second in the Louisville Invite. Cody Reul tops the 500 free field while Aymeric Le Corno and Russ Bryant have the best times in the 1000 free and 1650 free, respectively. Tyler Groneck leads the 100 fly with Loui Little following suit in the 400 IM.

Seth Musser and Fabian Schwingenschlogl have multiples top times in their respective events. S. Musser lead the 100 and 200 back with Schwingenschlogl leading the way in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. An All-American in the 100 breast last season, Schwingenschlogl holds top 50 times in the nation in the breast events, including 27th in the 100 breast (53.76) and 42nd in the 200 breast (1:58.04).

After this weekend, the team returns to Bowling Green for a meet against University of the Cumberlands and Olivet Nazarene on Jan. 23 followed by Cincinnati on Jan. 24. Both meets take place at Bill Powell Natatorium and will be the last ones on The Hill for the year.
