The third day of the 2023 Pro Swim Series in Westmont is in the books. Unlike our live recaps, which tend to focus on the top finishers in each event, this post is dedicated to highlighting some great swims that may have flown under the radar.
First up, Inés Marín broke the Chilean Record in the women’s 50 fly yesterday, swimming a 28.06 in prelims. Though Marín didn’t advance to finals in the event, she shattered the previous national record, which she held at 28.41 from 2019. Marín currently holds Chilean Records in the LCM 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, and 100 fly.
18-year-old Mitchell Schott, a Princeton swimmer, won the ‘C’ final of the men’s 200 fly last night, swimming a 2:02.04. The performance marked a new lifetime best for Schott, taking a little over a second off his previous best of 2:03.17 from last summer.
In the men’s 100 back, Long Island Aquatic Club 16-year-old Martin Perecinsky finished 18th overall, roaring to a new career best of 56.46. Perecinsky entered the meet with a PB of 57.68, which he swam in January of this year, then clocked a 57.15 in prelims before swimming his 56.46 in finals. With the performance, Perecinsky broke into the all-time top 100 for 15-16 boys, landing in a tie for 45th.
14-year-old Maddie Moreth out of Valparaiso Swim Club took 19th overall in the women’s 200 breast last night, swimming a 2:35.55. After posting a big PB in the 100 breast earlier in the meet, Moreth took well over a second off her previous lifetime best of 2:37.14 in the 200 breast.
Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club 16-year-old Ella Jablonski swam a 27.31 to win the ‘C’ final of the women’s 50 fly. Jablonski’s swim was a huge career best, blowing away her previous mark of 28.11, which she swam at Summer Junior Nationals last August.
Jesse Ssengonzi broke Uganda national record in 100 fly day 2 prelims with a 54.0
