(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont women’s swimming added one more to its 2020-21 roster, with head coach Jill Jones Lin announcing the signing of Kassy Gregory of Moraga. Gregory, who recently moved to Rancho Mission Viejo, is a sophomore transfer from Soka University.
“I’m so excited to round out our roster for next season with Kassy Gregory,” Jones Lin said. “Having coached her in high school and watched her compete in the PCSC, I know that Kassy will help the team out greatly. Kassy is a fierce competitor and is an incredible teammate. I’m thrilled to coach her and watch her improve over the next three years.”
Last year at Soka, Gregory qualified for the NAIA National Championships in two individual events (200 and 500 yard free) and in five relays (200, 400 and 800 yard free, 200 and 400 yard medley).
“I’m looking forward to joining the supportive community of swimmers that Coach Jones-Lin has cultivated,” Gregory said. “The team will now begin its second year on campus and there’s already an established camaraderie, commitment to excellence and support among my fellow team members. I’m excited and honored to join this group of elite women athletes.
“Additionally, I’m looking forward to representing Westmont during this season’s meets, including returning to the NAIA National Championships, this time as a Warrior with improved personal best times, and supporting my team.”
On top of her success in the pool as a freshman, Gregory earned Honorable Mention Scholar All-American honors, as recognized by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
“Westmont offers a unique balance between academics, athletics and faith, which is important to me,” Gregory said. “As an incoming sophomore, I wanted to continue my college studies in a supportive and culturally diverse environment with like-minded students. Westmont’s notable kinesiology and pre-med pathway will enable me to pursue my academic and career goals.
“I especially value the small class sizes and the opportunity to engage one-on-one with my professors. And of course, the opportunity to train under Coach Jones-Lin and swim with a great team is the icing on the cake.”
Gregory’s personal best times are 26.59 in the 50 free, 57.67 in the 100 free, 2:01.84 in the 200 free, 5:29.82 in the 500 free and 2:24.75 in the 200 IM.
“My goal is to continue my commitment to academics and athletic excellence during my time at Westmont,” Gregory said.
Gregory is the seventh swimmer to sign as part of the second-ever recruiting class in Westmont women’s swimming program history.
