I’m obviously biased, posting with my name so there is no confusion…..

But Tarwater and Phelps at Michigan. Both on 2005 world champ team, 1st and 4th. Both top five in the 200 fly for four straight years. Argument could be made Davis got third at trials cause Stovall was in a blue seventy and a lzr vs just lzr legs( absolutely no offense to Gil as he’s awesome and did an incredible swim and got his hand on the wall second).

They’ve gotta at least be talked about as Tarwater was 2×200 fly champ at NCAAS

Lower than Kristof Milak and Richard Marton.

Indiana teammates, Spitz and Hall – Gold and Silver medals in 200 fly at 1972 Olympics – hard to top that.

In SCY it has to be Conger and Schooling

Did Schooling ever break 1:40? I think Seli and Shields even tho they didn’t quite overlap they were training together. I guess its a close one since Seli didn’t really go all in on his 200fly scy either.

Schooling went 1:37

Schooling’s PB was 1:37.9 from 2016. If he actually kept training after Rio I think he could’ve gotten down to 1:36/1:35 as a senior. That’s why I feel the 200 FL NCAA record isn’t as strong as it could be.

Fully agree, such a shame he let one gold go to his head like it did. then dressel ruined his psyche

Didn’t remember him going that fast. Him and Conger would be number #1 but they probably didn’t quite reach their full potential cause Joe took his foot off the gas after winning in Rio.

I think the question was meant to be in LCM. In which case I wonder if Cseh and Milak ever trained together

Or Kenderesi or some combo of Japanese guys who have been sub 1:54

No, they didn’t. The 200 flyers who have trained with Milak include Richard Marton, Biczó Bence and Boglarka Kapas (if female swimmer counts).

No pair will ever top our favorite duo, Shields + Piano.

Do they train in the same lane???
I hate swimming fly with someone else in my lane, especially short course (recipe for a smack in the face). But, it is great to have someone in the next lane pushing your endurance butterfly.

Bentz was at UGA with Kalisz
Bentz was at UT with Conger
Shields and Seliskar at Cal

Pace Clark was with Bentz and Kalisz at UGA as well, he finished second at world trials in 2017. Litherland isn’t too bad at the 200 fly either

I don’t think Shields and Seli ever over lapped at Cal
