Where to Watch the Olympics Around the World

On August 5th, the 2016 Olympic games will kick off in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While some of us may be headed to the games to watch live, others will be streaming on the internet or watching on TV.

We made a list of where to watch the games online. The countries below are in order of the most popular among SwimSwam readers.

Most look to NBC for live coverage, but there are other outlets for each country. Viewers can click on the links next to their country and watch the games! It is not certain if each of the links will be a live coverage, or free.

Some of the networks will have guest commentators for swimming, to give their expert opinions or share memories that can relate to the live action.

In the UK, BBC network will have Andy Jameson (1984 Olympian) and Adrian Moorhouse (1988 Olympic gold medalist) as commentators, and Rebecca Adlington (2008 gold medalist) and Mark Foster (2008 Olympian) as guests, and Sharron Davies (1980 Olympian silver medalist) as the reporter.

Australian gold medalist in the 2004 Athens game, Giaan Rooney, will be commentating for Seven Network during the games.

Ian Thorpe who is a 5 time Olympic gold medalist for Australia, will be commentating for India as part of a panel for Star Sports. In the 2012 London Olympics, Thorpe did commentating for his nations broadcasting channel, Seven Network.

While most internet streams are limited to a certain geography, the internet has developed certain tools to watch streams from outside of these geographies. One of these tools is called “Tunnel Bear,” (website here) which, for example, uses a VPN (virtual private network) to make users appear as though they are from other countries.

If you have any questions about a specific country that may not be listed, comment below and we will help!
