Well all of them actually – I have to say these swimmers are truly a fun bunch. But today we hear from the effervescent Eva Fabian on the eve of the 5K championships in Barcelona. Fran Crippen IS special to many in this discipline of swimming, but he was truly a mentor and inspiration for Eva – they were on several teams together.
Racing starts tomorrow in Barcelona with the men’s and women’s 5K’s and team USA is ready to rock!! The team will head to the race course tomorrow morning to cheer on Haley, Becca, Andrew, and Sean as they represent the USA and kick butt. After a fantastic training camp, we are relaxed and ready to begin an exciting week of competition. During our team meeting tonight, our head coach, Catherine, led a minute of silence in honor of our teammate Fran Crippen, and everything he did for this team and the sport of open water. He will be in our hearts and minds as we race this week, and represent the USA to the best of our abilities. As Fran would say, the 5K event is “half the distance, and double the fun!!” We wish the 5K swimmers the best of luck and GO USA!!
1. Haley Anderson – USA
2. Poliana Okimoto – Brazil
3. Ana Marcela Cunha – Brazil
Anderson won by 0.2 secs in 56 mins 34.2 with Cunha a further 10 secs back behind Okimoti. Only 4 seconds separated 3rd from 11th. Martina Grimaldi was 7th and Becca Mann finished 8th, 2 secs behind bronze. Kalliopi Araouzou was 4th, Isabelle Harle 5th and Cara Baker 6th.
FIRST GOLD FOR TEAM USA : Haley Anderson in the 5K !!!!! Fantastic
Congrats Hayley and USA, first of many no doubt 🙂
Does anyone know who will be showing the OW live and what the link to it is? thanks
Good luck for all open water swimmers, only five minutes left before it starts.
I lost my patience with bad Finnish coverage and decided to subscribe to Eurosportplayer for one month to help covering the events that I don’t see otherwise. Eurosport seems to have very broad coverage of the FINA Worlds.
I have just one question before making the final decision. Has anyone tried that service before? If yes, I’d be interested in the quality of streaming, especially in terms of resolution and smoothness (frame rate) of the webcast? I’d like to watch it on TV if it’s possible.
I’m not sure if Eurosport offers it’s services in U.S., but the price for a player for a month… Read more »
I have used it for a while, I can’t say much about what it’s like via TV but the quality is usually very good and they tend to have knowledgeable swimming commentators too. For the price you can try it for a month and then cancel if it doesn’t suit your needs.
Yep, that’s what I’m going to do. Finnish version has a world record holder as an expert commentator, namely Jani Sievinen whose record in 200IM was eventually broken by Phelps.
Sean Ryan for the gold ! Go Usa
