Why is Dave Salo an Assistant Coach at Orange Coast College?

In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down with legendary coach Dave Salo, who recently announced that he would be dawning the role of assistant coach at Orange Coast College. Salo explains that after so long of being a head coach, he’s excited to coach without all of the extra worries that come with heading a Power-5 Division I program. He also gets into the nitty-gritty of how he runs workouts, if he’s a “player’s coach”, and what he’s looking forward to at Orange Coast.

I was a volunteer assistant coach at a DI program when I was a professor and it rocked compared to the years I spent as the head coach of a large age group program. I’d take the volunteer assistant position any day! Dave Salo is a smart guy!
