Day one of the 2018 Speedo Super Sectionals in Austin, Texas, featured finals for the women’s and men’s 100 free, 200 breast, 200 back, and 200 fly.
15-year-old Anna Shaw won the women’s 100 free in 50.01 (24.20/15.81). UCLA-commit Delaney Smith took second in 50.07, followed by Foothill’s Kylie Andrews in 50.13. The Terrapins’ Alexei Sancov won the men’s 100 free in 43.41 (20.94/22.47), followed by Colorado Springs’ Kyle Leach in 44.26 and the Front Range Barracudas’ Harrison Lierz in 45.10.
The Terrapins’ Emily Lo won the women’s 200 breast in 2:12.43 (30.18/33.23/34.04/34.98). The Aquarockets’ Catherine Wright took second in 2:15.41, and Highlands Ranch’s Holley Dennis third in 2:15.70. TOPS’ William Goodwin won the men’s race in 1:59.85 (27.56/30.42/30.64/31.23). In second was Foothill’s Jack Moranetz in 2:00.45, and the Aquawolves’ Elijah Warren in 2:02.42.
In the women’s 200 back, Utah Valley’s Makayla Cazier took the win in 1:56.79 (26.86/28.92/30.26/20.75), over a second ahead of Pikes Peak’s second-place finisher Meredith Rees (1:57.97). In third was Highlands Ranch’s Natalie Arky in 1:58.06. Foothill’s 16-year-old Gavin Olson won the men’s race in 1:43.40 (24.20/26.37/26.69/26.14), followed by the Barracudas’ Harrison Lierz in 1:43.94. Andrew Rodriguez, of the Terrapins, took third place in 1:48.76.
El Paso’s Miriam Guevara, a Northwestern-commit, won the women’s 200 fly in 1:59.89 (26.17/30.49/31.77/31.46). The Aquastars’ Olivia Theall took second in 2:00.34, followed by Kingfish’s Katherine Connolly in 2:02.40. TOPS’ Seth Hendrix won the men’s race in 1:47.11, splitting 24.08/27.16/27.32/28.55. Utah Valley’s Anthony Puertas took second in 1:48.61, and Colorado Springs’ Braden Whitmarsh third in 1:52.06.
Don’t forget the 1000 free which was also swam in the final last night.
