In his team’s second meet of the season, William & Mary swimming coach Nate Kellogg hoped to see better execution and overall improvement. He did — particularly from the women, who took 13 out 14 events in a 189.5-71.5 win over Johns Hopkins Saturday.

Seniors Elizabeth Intihar (1000 and 500 free), Annie Tuttle (100 and 200 breast) and Katie Stevenson (200 and 100 free) and freshman Sophia Heilen (100 and 200 fly) each won two events. Each swam on at least one relay winner — Stevenson swam on both.

“The first home meet is always exciting,” said Kellogg, whose women’s team is the defending CAA champion. “The kids were fired up for it. We had only had one meet before that (at UNC Wilmington), and that first meet out of the gate is always hit or miss.

“There were some specific things we wanted to see executed better, and for the most part, we did that. It was a solid meet all the way around.”

Although the men’s team didn’t get as many first-place finishes in a 151-111 loss, Kellogg also saw some positives. Freshmen Alex Valliere and Logan McDonald finished first and third in the 50 free.

“We have a talented freshman class,” Kellogg said. “I think they’re still in the learning phase on how to race week in and week out, and there is a learning curve for that. We’re leaning on them a lot this year, and there’s a ton of potential there.”

W&M also got wins from Micah Lowe (100 back) and Noah Fields (200 fly) as well as the 200 medley relay.

This weekend, both teams will head up I-95 to compete at Loyola (Md.) on Friday and Towson on Saturday.
