Williams Wins 800 Free Relay To Kick Off NESCAC Men’s Swim & Dive Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Williams College Ephs captured first place in the 800 freestyle relay for the fourth consecutive year to kick off the 2023 NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships at Wesleyan University on Thursday evening.

Williams set a Webster Natatorium pool record time of 6:34.31. The team of sophomores Oliver Schalet, Carter Anderson, junior Alex Atherton, and first-year Harrison Williams posted a time 11 seconds faster than the entry time. Tufts, the top seed in the event, followed in second at 6:38.44 and Connecticut College was third at 6:39.82. Sophomore Justin Finkel led off the Conn. College relay with an NCAA A cut time of 1:36.49 over the first 200 meters. The Camels also dropped 19.76 seconds off their entry time in the race.

The NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships continue on Friday. The morning prelim swims begin at 10 a.m. and the diving trials will start at 2 p.m. The evening finals are set for 6 p.m. All sessions will be webcast and the swimming events will have live results.
