Winter Juniors Qualifier Caitlin Hurley Verbals to Purdue

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Caitlin Hurley, a junior at the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, has verbally committed to Purdue University for the class of 2023. She is the second Hurley sibling to swim in the Big Ten – her older brother Tommy is currently a sophomore at Penn State.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my swimming and academic career at Purdue University. I am thankful for my family, coaches, and friends who have all supported me along the way. I am proud to be a boilermaker! #boilerup”

At the 2022 IAAM A&B Conference Championships, Hurley won the 200 free and 500 free, and placed 1st as part of the 400 free relay and 2nd as part of the 200 free relay.

Hurley also swims club for the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. At the 2021 Maryland LSC Summer Championships, Hurley won the 100m free, 200m free, 400m free, 800m free, and 1500m free.

Hurley has Winter Juniors cuts in the 200-yard free, 1000-yard free, and 1650-yard free. She also has USA Swimming Futures cuts in the 200-yard IM, 100m free, 1500m free, and 200m IM.

Best short-course yards times:

  • 200 free: 1:48.82
  • 500 free: 4:54.43
  • 1000 free: 10:01.85
  • 1650 free: 16:38.01
  • 200 IM: 2:07.57

Purdue is a member of the Big Ten conference. At the 2021 Big Ten Championships, the Purdue women placed 9th out of 13 teams. At that meet, Hurley would’ve qualified for the C-final of the 200 free and made the top 20 of the 1650 free. Given that Purdue only scored four points in the 200 free at last year’s Big Ten championships, Hurley could prove an asset in the mid-distance events.

If Hurley had competed in the 2021-22 season for Purdue, she would’ve had the fastest time in the 200 free and 1650 free so far this season for the team. She also would’ve been the 2nd-fastest 500 and 1000 freestyler.

Hurley joins IMer Keira Kask, backstroker Abbie Kehmeier, backstroker/freestyler Gretchen Schneider, freestyler Meg Howell, distance freestyler Leyla Sleime, and mid-distance freestyler Kaylee Wu for the class of 2023.
