Winter Juniors Qualifier Elizabeth Myers Verbally Commits to Rice

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Austin, Texas-native Elizabeth Myers has given a verbal commitment to Rice University for 2020-21.

“I’m happy to announce that I have verbally committed to swim and study at Rice University in the class of 2024. I know that Rice is the best place for me to succeed as a student, athlete, and young adult the next four years. A big thanks to my family, friends, teachers, and WHAC for supporting me along the way! I look forward to being a part of this amazing swim team and family. Go Owls!”

Myers is a senior at Lyndon B. Johnson High School. She led off the state-champion 200 free relay with a personal-best 23.73 and anchored the 5th-place 400 free relay (51.61) at the 2019 Texas UIL 5A Swimming & Diving State Meet. Individually, she came in 7th in the 100 free (52.25) and won the consolation final of the 50 free (23.82). In club swimming she notched PBs in the 100y fly (56.97) at College Station Sectionals in March and in the 50 free (26.69), 100m free (58.37), 100m fly (1:02.72), and 200m IM (2:28.89) at Austin Sectionals in July, qualifying for Winter Nationals in the 50 free and Winter Juniors in the 100 fly. Myers competed at Summer Juniors, leading off the WHAC 400 free relay and time-trialing the 200 free and 100 fly.

Myers’ best times would have placed her in the B finals of the 50 free and 100 fly and the C final of the 100 free at 2019 Conference-USA Championships, where Rice finished second out of six teams. The Owls had a pair of freshmen, Becca Evans and Marta Cano Minarro, who both split 22.58 on the conference-champion 200 free relay, so she will be in good sprint company.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.73
  • 100 free – 51.95
  • 200 free – 1:53.68
  • 100 fly – 56.97
  • 200 IM – 2:11.12

Myers will join Lauren Hurt, Mimi Filkin, and Sarah Kutz in the class of 2024.
