Winter Juniors Qualifier Madi Dohrn Commits to Iowa State for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Madi Dohrn from Schaumburg, Illinois has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Iowa State University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study engineering at Iowa State! After touring and meeting with coaches, swimmers, advisors, and seeing all that ISU had to offer I knew it was the place for me. Thank you to all the coaches and administrators that worked to coordinate protocols so we could have most of a HS season during COVID. I especially want to thank my SHS and Reach coaches for their teaching and support, and my teammates for their encouragement and keeping practices fun and competitive. I want to thank my family for absolutely everything! Go Cyclones!!”

Dohrn competes for Reach Aquatics out of Hoffman Estates, IL. Primarily a backstroker, she achieved her first winter juniors cut in March of this year in the 200 backstroke at the Illinois Swimming Winter Open. She broke the 2:00 barrier for the first time with a time of 1:59.57. During her high school season this past fall, she was a sectional champion in both the 100 backstroke (55.57) and 200 freestyle (1:53.48) as well as the runner up in the 50 (24.55) and 100 freestyles (52.97). All four of those swims were best times.

She attended Schaumburg High School in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Her best short course times are:

  • 100 backstroke: 55.57
  • 200 backstroke: 1:59.57
  • 50 freestyle: 24.55
  • 100 freestyle: 52.97
  • 200 freestyle: 1:53.43
  • 200 IM: 2:10.96

Iowa State University is a public university in Ames, Iowa. The school is a member of the Big-12 Conference.

At the 2021 Big 12 Conference Championships, the women’s team finished 5th out of 5 teams with 522 points. They were not far behind West Virginia University (526 points) and Texas Christian University (528 points) in what was a tight battle for third place. Dohrn will look to contribute to the team’s points as her best times would have placed 8th in the 200 backstroke and 10th in the 100 backstroke.

Dohrn is the second announced commit for her high school class. She joins Corinne Guist in the class of 2026.
