Winter Juniors Qualifier Maggie Patterson Verbals to Miami (OH)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maggie Patterson, a senior at Northville High School in Northville, Michigan, has committed to join the Miami University (OH) class of 2026. She swims club in Ohio for the Hudson Explorers (HEAT). Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic Patterson has been living in Hudson, Ohio training with HEAT while attending Northville High School in Michigan virtually.

Patterson told SwimSwam, “I am beyond honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Miami University (OH). I cannot thank much [sic] coaches, parents, and friends enough for their endless support and helping make my dreams come true. I would also like to thank the Miami coaches for all their support in this process. I am thrilled for what the future holds. #loveandhonor.”

Patterson is a butterfly and distance freestyle specialist. This past summer at the Richmond Long Course Futures, Patterson hit her first Winter Juniors cut in the 200 fly, where she finished 13th in a 2:18.77. She also won the 100 fly D final in Richmond with a 1:03.27.

Her best short course yards times include:

  • 200 free: 1:54.01
  • 500 free: 5:05.76
  • 1650 free: 17:27.23
  • 100 fly: 56.21
  • 200 fly: 2:02.57

Miami University is a Division I school in Oxford, Ohio that competes in the Mid American Conference (MAC). Patterson projects to make an immediate impact for the Redhawks when she arrives on campus next fall. Her best 200 fly time would have qualified for the B final at the 2021 MAC Championships, while her 100 fly and 1650 would have placed her 17th and 19th, respectively, just outside of conference scoring range. The MAC women’s meet only scores A and B finals.

Patterson’s arrival will replenish a historically strong Miami butterfly group, which put two swimmers in the A final of the 200 fly at last year’s MAC Championships. Both of those swimmers, Nicole Maier and Kayleigh Cannon, will graduate before Patterson arrives in Oxford.

Miami, which finished a distant third at the 2021 MAC Championships, over 300 points behind Buffalo and Akron, is building a massive class of 2026. Patterson is the 9th public commitment to the Redhawks’ women’s class of 2026. She will be joined on campus in Oxford in the fall of 2022 by Mady Bachmeier, Julia Waechter, Maddie Zehr, Ashley Sego, Mollie Lumsden, Jenna Halliday, Madison Saldanha and Avery Catalano
