Winter Juniors Qualifier Reagan Phillips Sends Verbal To South Carolina (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Reagan Phillips has announced her verbal commitment to the University of South Carolina, beginning in the fall of 2024. Phillips is wrapping up her junior year at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

Phillips shared her commitment on Instagram:

Phillips is a sprint freestyle specialist, and trains year-round with Rockville Montgomery Swim Club. She competed at Winter Juniors – East this past December, where she earned her highest finish in the 200 free at 62nd (1:53.42). In addition to the 200 free, Phillips also raced the 50 and 100, earning 97th (24.05) and 91st (52.95), respectively.

This past summer, Phillips recorded a handful of personal best times at the 2022 NCSA Summer Championships. She dropped a second in the 200m to post a 2:09.43, and shaved off a few hundredths in the 100m for a 59.11. Her highest finish was 20th in the 50m free, where she swam a season best time of 27.06.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.20
  • 100 free – 50.70
  • 200 free – 1:50.74
  • 100 fly – 56.58
  • 200 IM – 2:06.33

South Carolina recently finished 8th out of 12 teams at the 2023 SEC Championships. The sprint freestyle events were relatively strong for South Carolina this season, as they put up 12 points in the 50 and 25 points in the 100. It took a 22.66 to advance to the C-final this year in the 50 and a 49.37 in the 100. Phillips is outside of that range now, but still has over a year remaining to improve before arriving in Columbia.

The Gamecocks were led by Janie Smith in both sprint events this year. Smith clocked a 22.29 to take 18th in the 50, and a 48.32 in the 100 to place 9th overall. Aubrey Chandler and Dylan Scholes joined Smith in the C-final of the 50 free earning 22nd (22.72) and 23rd (22.78), respectively. Scholes also raced in the C-final of the 100 free, where she took 20th with a 49.04. Scholes is the only one of that group that will still be on campus when Phillips arrives.

Phillips joins Brooke Beede and Emma Reiser in South Carolina’s class of 2028. Beede also swims freestyle events, owning best times of 23.46/50.27/1:48.74 in the 50/100/200 freestyle. Reiser is more distance oriented, but also owns a best time of 1:48.41 in the 200 free.
