Winter Juniors Qualifier Scott Piper Chooses Michigan State

Naperville Central HS’s Scott Piper has verbally committed to Michigan State for next fall. Piper is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 200 back, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM.

Piper’s Top Times

  • 100 back – 51.10
  • 200 back – 1:49.00
  • 100 fly – 51.47
  • 200 fly – 1:50.37
  • 200 IM – 1:51.44
  • 400 IM – 3:56.28

At the 2015 IHSA Championships, Piper finished 4th in the 200 IM and 9th in the 100 back, and also led off Naperville Central’s 4th place 200 medley relay.

Piper’s versatility is going to work very well with the Michigan State program– last year, he would’ve been their fastest 400 IMer, along with their #2 200 backstroker, #2 200 butterflier, #4 100 backstroker, and #5 200 IMer. He’ll look to be a great training partner for his former Naperville Central teammate Connor Lamb, who was the Spartans’ top 400 IMer last season as a freshman.

Piper would’ve almost made the 200 fly and 400 IM C finals at B1G Champs, two events in which Michigan State was weakest in last year.

Joining Piper in MSU’s class of 2020 will be another IHSA finalist, Payton Woods.
