The Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches’ Association has released their inaugural ranking for the 2016 Girls’ High School season.
The big news is that the defending Division I Girls’ State Champions from Arrowhead High School are not ranked in the top 10 at all, while 2015 runners-up Middleton take the top spot in the initial poll.
Arrowhead had huge graduations after last season, including defending 50 free state champion and Division I Record holder Kelly Jacob, but still return enough quality to expect a higher finish than their current 20th-ranking has them after week 1 of the season.
Verona Area-Mount Horeb, who graduated one of the state’s two best swimmers Beata Nelson at the end of last season, comes in 2nd in the initial poll.
Division II sees a shakeup at the top from last year’s final state-championship results as well, though not as drastic as in Division I. McFarland, who were the runners-up in Division II last season, open at #1 in 2016. Edgewood, who were 57.5 poitns better than McFarland at last year’s State Championship meet (277.50-220) are 3rd in this year’s initial rankings.
The 2016 Wisconsin State Girls Swimming & Diving Championships run November 11th-12th at the University of Wisconsin.
