Wisconsin Breaststroke Star Emily McClellan Inks Deal With A3 Performance

A3 Performance is thrilled to announce the signing of 22-year old breaststroke phenom Emily McClellan to represent the brand in her up and coming professional swim career. McClellan has been wearing A3 Performance throughout her success as a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther, and is now partnering with A3 as she sets her sights on this summer’s U.S. Nationals and beyond.

A small town girl from a family farm in Delavan, Wisconsin, McClellan first committed to year-round swimming in her collegiate years at UWM. She had a breakout year in 2012 placing 6th at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100- meter breaststroke. After her shocking performance at the 2012 Olympic Trials, McClellan has only continued to become more of a threat in the breaststroke events.

In her four years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, McClellan was a four-time Horizon League Champion in the 200 Individual Medley, 200 Breaststroke, and 100 Breaststroke. She was also a four-time Horizon League Swimmer of the Meet and Athlete of the Year.

2014 was McClellan’s Senior collegiate year and in March, she was the NCAA runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke clocking in at 57.76. McClellan’s time was the third fastest time on record and made her the third woman in history to break 58 seconds.

Starting her post-collegiate and professional career, McClellan is excited to partner with A3 Performance, a brand native to Wisconsin, just like her.

“I know and trust A3 and I’m really excited that they are from Wisconsin” said McClellan. “I’ve raced in their suits for years. Racing in a suit that the swimmer is comfortable in is a huge advantage for the swimmer…It feels right and makes sense.”

Now partnered with A3 Performance, McClellan has her sights set on representing Team USA at many national and international competitions with the long term goal being Rio 2016.

“Emily is an extremely talented athlete and is a great representative of A3. Her future is very bright and we are very happy to be working with her on her quest,” said Dan Meinholz – President of A3 Performance.

McClellan is currently training her first full summer of long-course meters at the University of Minnesota with Kelly Kremer. After U.S. Nationals in August, she plans to move out to Southern California to train with renowned coach Dave Salo and his elite group of breaststroke post-graduate professional swimmers.
