Wisconsin State Champion Reese Tiltmann Verbals to Indiana

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Reese Tiltmann, the Wisconsin state champion in the 500 free, has verbally committed to Indiana for the class of 2027.

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Indiana University! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and teammates for the unconditional support and helping me get to where I am today. I am incredibly blessed to have this opportunity. Go Hoosiers!”

Tiltmann is a junior at Brookfield East High School. Her older sister Reilly is an All-American swimmer for UVA, her other older sister Reegan swims for the Florida Institute of Technology, and both of her parents swam at Nebraska.

In addition to winning the 500 free at Wisconsin High School State Championship meet (Division 1) in 2021, Tiltmann placed 2nd in the 200 free. She was also part of the 200 and 400 free relays for Brookfield, which broke Division 1 state records. Tiltmann also holds school records in the 500 free, and is an All American in the 200 and 500 free, as well as the 200 and 400 free relays. She is also a 2021 Scholastic All American.

Tiltmann swims club for Elmbrook Swim Club. Elmbrook’s women’s team is on a roll, having won the past three Wisconsin High School State Championships. In August, a group of Elmbrook swimmers broke a number of 15-18 NAG relay records. Another key Elmbrook swimmer, Abby Wanezek, will join the Big Ten as well as a Wisconsin commit.

At the 2021 West Speedo Summer Championships, she finished 7th in the 400m IM. At the 2021 NCSA Spring Swimming Championships, she finished 6th in the 400 IM.

Tiltmann is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 400 IM, and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 200 free, 500 free, 200 breast, and 200 IM.

Best short-course yards times:

  • 200 free: 1:48.17
  • 500 free: 4:52.08
  • 200 breast: 2:15.59
  • 200 IM: 2:02.27
  • 400 IM: 4:15.13

Indiana University is a member of the Big Ten conference. At the 2021 women’s Big Ten championships, Indiana finished 3rd of 13 teams. With her best times, Tiltmann would’ve already made the B final in the 400 IM, and the C final in the 200 breast, 200 free, and 500 free.

With still a year left in high school, Tiltmann would already be one of the fastest Indiana swimmers in some key events. This season, she’d be the 3rd-fastest 400 IMer, 4th-fastest 200 freestyler, and 6th-fastest 500 freestyler.

Indiana recruits heavily in-state, and currently have no swimmers from Wisconsin. So far, for the women’s class of 2023, Tiltmann will join breaststroker Olivia Roumph. In the recruiting year before Tiltmann, Indiana will welcome butterflier Katie Forrester, sprint freestyler Katharina Wrede, IM/breaststroker MacKenna Lieske, butterflier Lily Hann, sprint freestyler Cat Watrous, sprint-to-mid-distance freestyler Kristina Paegle, sprinter Chiok Sze Yeo, butterflier/IMer Gracie Olsen, and backstroker Mya DeWitt

The middle-distance freestyles have been a strength for the Hoosiers in recent years. They scored 69 points in the 500 free and 55 points in the 200 free last season at the Big Ten Championships. They graduated a lot of those points at the end of last season, including Josie Grote, who was 4th in the 500 free at Big Tens, but have at least three seasons remaining with Ella Ristic, who was 3rd in the 500 and 2nd in the 200 free at last year’s Big Ten Championships.

The team still hasn’t done a ton to address weaknesses in the backstroke races, in the next two classes, though DeWitt (52.85/1:58.59) will help begin that rebuilding process.
