Kelly Jacob of Hartland, Wisconsin, has given her verbal commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for 2016-17.
“I chose the University of Notre Dame because of the strong academic and athletic tradition! The girls on the team made me feel very welcome, and I loved the positive team culture! I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Litzinger and Coach Woo! I can’t wait to become part of the Notre Dame family! Go Irish!”
Jacob is the defending WIAA Girls Division 1 State Champion in both the 50 free and 100 free, and a member of Arrowhead High School’s winning 400 free relay and runner-up 200 free relay. Jacob’s performances were a key factor in helping propel the Arrowhead girls’ team into the overall number one position, after several years at number two, at the 2014 Wisconsin high school state meet.
Jacob swims under Head Senior Coach Dave Joyce at Lake Country Phoenix in Hartland. Her best times over the last two seasons include:
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 23.10 | 26.55 |
100 free | 50.73 | 58.60 |
200 free | 1:51.53 | 2:08.65 |
100 fly | 57.34 | 1:05.45 |
100 back | 58.32 | 1:11.52 |
Jacob’s current times would have her just outside the scoring position at 2015 ACC Championships, where it took 23.0/50.2/1:49.3 to get a second swim in the 50/100/200 freestyles. It won’t take much for her to be a major contributor to Notre Dame’s results, both individually and as a leg of the relays in South Bend.
The Fighting Irish class of 2020 is shaping up to be one of its strongest in recent memory, with the following future members already verbally committed:
