MADISON, Wis. – After it excelled both in and out of the pool this season, the Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team was recognized as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches of Association of America (CSCAA) on Tuesday.
One of a record 406 collegiate swimming and diving programs honored, the distinction comes as a result of UW’s classroom performance in the spring semester. The UW women combined to record a 3.29 team grade-point average.
To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the spring semester. This is the first time in the 30+ year history of the CSCAA’s program that more than 600 teams, representing 406 institutions, received the designation.
This past winter, a total of 17 Badgers earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition earlier, including 11 from the women’s team.
For the women, Maria Carlson, Katie Delaney, Dana Grindall, Madeline Hazle, Rachel Johnson, Chase Kinney, Ivy Martin, Caroline Palm, Ashley Peterson, Aja Van Hout and Grace Wold were all honored by the Big Ten. For the men, Nick Caldwell, Sean Maloney, Ryan O’Donnell, Nick Schafer, Drew teDuits and Harrison Tran garnered Big Ten distinction.
Caldwell was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District men’s at-large team by CoSIDA this season. It marked the second-straight year that the senior was honored with the academic award.
