The NC State swimming & diving team will compete in its first dual meet of the 2013-14 season, as the squad travels to Virginia Tech on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.
“We are excited to be headed to Blacksburg this weekend to take on the Hokies,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “They are a great program with a great coaching staff that has built it up to a top-25 program.”
In its season debut, the Pack collected first-place finishes on both the men’s and women’s sides at the All-North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. Sophomore Kristin Connors posted a strong debut en route to claiming the ACC Female Swimmer of the Week honors. She earned three victories, including the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-freestyle. In addition, she teamed with juniors Hannah Freyman and Lauren Poli, as well as freshman Natalie Labonge to claim first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In diving, freshmen Grant Saale posted a first-place finish on the one-meter springboard en route to taking ACC Male Diver of the Week.
Virginia Tech enters Saturday’s meet after posting a 2-0 ledger in the Virginia Tech Challenge, while the women’s squad had a second-place finish in the event and holds a 4-1 record on the season.
“It is going to be great competition and a great test for us to see where we are and see how we handle some pressure and adversity,” Holloway said. “For the divers, it is a chance to go against some of the top divers in the country.”
Last year, the Pack women defeated the Hokies, 160-140, in Raleigh, while the men’s squad posted its first tie in the history of the program.
Complete results will be posted on GoPack.com at the conclusion of the meet.
