The finals lineups for the women’s 4×100 medley relay, the last race on the last finals session of the 2022 World Championships, have been released.
The United States, who were underwhelming in prelims and only qualified in seventh for finals, will be swimming in lane one. After using Alex Walsh on prelims, they will opt for Lilly King on breaststroke, meaning that Annie Lazor (who was selected to represent the U.S. in the 100 breast) will not be on either relay. This comes despite the fact that Lazor will not be competing in the 50 breast final tonight whereas King will be.
Canada has swapped in Rachel Nicol for Kelsey Wog. Nicol split 1:07.28 on the prelims of the mixed medley relay, whereas Wog split 1:08.26 on the women’s relay this morning.
Australia, Canada, and the United States, who are the podium favorites for this relay, will not be swimming in adjacent lanes next to each other.
Full Lineups:
- United States (Smith, King, Huske, Curzan)
- Italy (Panziera, Pilato, di Liddo, di Pietro)
- Sweden (Rosvall, Hansson S., Hansson L., Sjostrom)
- Australia (McKeown, Strauch, Throssell, O’Callaghan)
- Netherlands (Toussaint, Schouten, de Waard, Steenbergen)
- Canada (Masse, Nicol, MacNeil, Oleksiak)
- China (Peng, Tang, Zhang, Yang)
- France (Terebo, Blanchetiere, Wattel, Bonnet)
I just came back to this, lemme say something:
First you decide to leave Ray Looze home and not even let him travel with the team even though based on the trials time there is at least 4 medals and 2 relay legs, maybe one more, in between two of his swimmers.
Next when it is obvious your #1 breaststroker needs her coach after COVID you leave her on an island.
Then you use a DQ as an excuse to leave a swimmer out of a relay and rob her of a medal. For those saying the DQ is a valid reason, just a reminder she beat her seed in the 50 later in the meet
Then you put your… Read more »
I’m with you on the head scratcher of the prelims lineup but disqualifying DeSorbo from being head coach again is a little dramatic. You don’t know what’s been going on behind closed doors, maybe Annie is sick or something. You’re basing this all on massive speculation.
If there was actual concern about the possibility of Lazor’s stroke DQing the whole relay then I guess it makes sense since all the prelim relay really needs to do is make it to finals
Huske to win it for America but if Throssell does a Hodges then it’s Gold to Australia.
Can’t fathom why they didn’t use Lazor on heats or Douglas on fly in prelims.
They didn’t want to be disqualified

Silly me it’s the wrong thread
Lazor was robbed of a medal. Not saying she really should’ve been on the finals relay but at LEAST the prelims relay, come on
yeah im really wondering with that decision. Seemed like an incredibly obvious choice, would’ve made sense even if she were on the finals relau
she definitely could’ve been better than the 1:07.6 from walsh today
Can’t expect Lazor to miraculously fix her kick in a few days, too much of a risk that the team will be disqualified.
USA will lose to Australia and Canada!
Canada maybe but the US’s middle legs are both faster and Smith consistently beats McKeown on relays and I don’t think MOC is fast enough to make up the difference
Smith and McKeown have only raced against eachother in a relay twice once in Gwangju 3 years ago and once in Tokyo where McKeown was very slightly faster.
China (Peng, Tang, Zhang, Yang) is just funny to me
You are not alone 😭😭😭😂
Is it because of the spellings?
nah it’s bc they aren’t western names 🙄🙄
Of course it could just be because they seem to rhyme. You wouldn’t think it’d be at least a little funny to see Smith, Smith, Smith and Ledecky (lol, sounds like a law firm), or Brandt, Dant, Gant, Krant, all one one team?
Commentator’s nightmare
This type of person ^ has perfect crossover with the type of person that thinks Shayna Jack was a victim that just made a “heroic” return, or the type of person that thinks Yannick Agnel doesn’t deserve “unfair” criticism.
Not so much if you speak their native language (which I do). Just remember traveling and meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures can broaden one’s horizons.
Peng, Tang, Zhang, and Yang are all very common Chinese surnames.
