Coming in to day 3, the leading Cal bears put up another big morning with 8 swims to score in tonight’s finals. California was the only team to qualify a swimmer for finals or consols in every event, and 6 of those swims are in the championship final. Georgia sits in 2nd and they tied Cal for the most scoring swims set up in today’s prelims, with 9 swims in tonight’s finals. It doesn’t look like the bulldogs have enough room to catch Cal, and they’ll most likely end up in 2nd ahead of Stanford, who came up with 4 scoring swims this morning.
The battle to round out the top 5 is tight between 3 teams. Louisville, Texas A&M, and Virginia head into tonight’s finals with 151, 153.5, and 168 point respectively. Of the three, Texas A&M has the most scoring swims, but this list doesn’t include the 1650. The Hoos will look to capitalize off of Leah Smith in the mile to stay ahead of the hard-charging Aggies, who qualified their 400 free relay into the championship final. Lousville looks to move into the top 5 after big points in the 200 fly from 2 championship finalists, Kelsi Worrell and Tanja Kyllianen.

California has three down: Bing (100 free), Garcia (200 breast) and Mau (200 fly)
I don’t think the ups/downs include the mile which should be 3/0 or 2/1 for Georgia. Only Runge for Cal probably. None for Stanford
The mile isn’t included in the up/downs because it is possible for someone in the top 16 to move up into top 8, or for a finalist to fall out of the top 8, etc. In the other events, ups will always score top 8. Downs will always score 9-16.
