Last week we reported that 2012 Olympic gold medalistΒ Cameron van der Burgh announced that he has been battling a case of coronavirus-caused COVID-19. The 31-year old South African was the first elite swimmer to publicly reveal that they have been infected by the disease that has grown into a global pandemic.
Just days later, additional cases are coming to light, as 26-year-old HungarianΒ Boglarka Kapas revealed she has tested positive for the virus.
“Iβve been tested positive for Covid19. I donβt have any symptoms yet and thatβs why itβs important for you to know that even if you feel healthy you can spread the virus. please be careful, stay at home and stay healthy,” reads the reigning 200m butterfly world champion’s Instagram post dated March 31st.
Additionally, Kapas expands on the fact she was tested as part of Hungarian Swimming’s program to still offer training facilities, as long as swimmers were negative for COVID-19. You can read our report on this process here.
“I want to tell you one important thing, to continue our preparation we had to do two tests coronavirus and if both of them are negative then we can continue to prepare. For me the first was negative, but the second was positive. I’m in quarantine at home which means I can’t leave the apartment obviously only to go out in my garden for a little bit of breath.
“I felt good I don’t feel any symptoms and that’s why I wanted to draw but more attention that I am positive but I have no problem and that’s why it is very important that even if you have no problems you should be very careful to wear the mask gloves. And if really keep constantly at home because you can still be carriers and contagious that you have nothing wrong and you don’t think you are sick so really pay attention to that and I will report if there is some interesting story hi take care of yourself.”

Boglarka is so sweet. She thinks of others first of all. Thank you Boglarka!
Situation is worse because Kapas is distantce swimmer. She need very good lung fuctional.
I think it’s safe to say that ALL swimmers need good lung function.
This swimmers get virus already in Thailand.
Why do you think so. They had negative tests a couple of days earlier.. The male swimmers I think were in Turkey.
One of them feels sick the others have no symptoms so far.
I think, we do not know enough to make definite statements. Because of some questions there will be a third test for those who are affected.
Thatβs what happens when youβre still going to practices under quarantine…
exactly, you are so smart
(there is no quarantine in Hungary)
There are quite significant restrictions tho…
she was following all the rules. The restrictions are mostly implemented by people having to address Orban from here on out as “King”
They were at training camp when things started to escalate. For a time they werent allowed to train until they test negative twice. It’s not like they were doing training as usual…
They were not allowed to practice before 2 weeks quarantine and 2 negative tests
8 more Hungarian swimmers tested positive since that news broke. Stay strong Bogi!
Yikes. I found info on Bohus, Kozma, and Horvath- who else?
Hungarian federation is now saying 9 have tested positive. They haven’t released names. We’ve been checking social media all morning, nobody besides those you listed have posted.
Sounds like one might be a coach.
yes, they said one coach and they are not releasing more names, obviously it’s the ones who get tested before they would enter the pool, the national team and national team hopefuls, as most pools closed.
Names covering is bad and likely crime. This is very false behavoir.
what is name covering?
I assume not revealing all names. But that IS THE BASIC RULE. Names are revealed only if the ones, like Kapas and the other 3 or 4 tell it themselves in social media.
That must feel a bit scary. Get well soon!
My heart goes out for her. Wishing fast and full recovery
Prayers for a fast recovery! πππΌπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
