At a press conference held earlier today at the Palace of Water Sports in Kazan the medals for both the 16th FINA World Championships in Aquatics and the 16th FINA Masters World Championships were unveiled.
The press conference was not held to only show the public what the competitors will be fighting for this summer, but the organizing committee went into the details that are involved in the awards ceremony and its organization.
In his speech Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Azat Kadyrov spoke about how important the medal presentation preparation is to the success of the championships.
The medal designs were picked from submissions of 56 different concepts that were submitted from March-September 2014.
The 16th FINA World Championships in Aquatics medals were designed by ‘Studio of Advertising’ and the concept is named ‘The Depth of the Water”.
“Developing the concept for medals is a difficult task,” said Ilshat Baiburin, the company’s Art Director. “We tried to convey a movable surface, depth and fluidity.“
The 16th FINA Masters World Championships in Aquatics were designed by the company “Sechenov” with the concept name of “Full Throttle”. The medals are designed to look like ancient artifacts.
These medals are meant to have “profound symbolic meaning: the desire to win, overcoming the elements on the road to success, the willingness to be one on one with the challenges of fate and, of course, inextricably linked human and water.”
The details of the ceremony that were discussed included the involvement of selecting 44 female models to hand out the medals, that there are 20 students from the Kazan Higher Military Command School that would be in charge of carrying flags and that there are 2500 flags of the competing countries and 60 Championships flags being produced.
Very bland and uninspired.
I am betting the design company somehow got the job through personal connections.
Is there any way of finding out what the dimensions (size) of the medals are?
Hmmmmm…….. Not sure what I think. I don’t LIKE them but I don’t hate them either. But if I won one, I would love it. So there ya go.
