Earlier in the year at the World Cup in Hong Kong Chad le Clos just missed Evegney Korotyshkin‘s 100 butterfly world record of 48.48 posting a lifetime best of 48.56. Tonight le Clos made sure that his name went into the record books winning the event in a new world record time of 48.44.
American Tom Shields finished second in a time of 48.99. Shields wasn’t too far off of his American record of 48.80 which he posted at the World Cup in Doha last year.
Tommaso D’Orsongna of Australia collected the bronze finishing in a time of 49.60.
Korotyshkin finished fourth posting a season’s best of 49.88 followed by Kosuke Hagino who finished in a time of 49.91.
Yauhen Tsurkin of Belarus finished in a time of 49.99 breaking his own national record of 50.57 which he set earlier this year.
American Ryan Lochte finished seventh in a time of 50.23 followed by Marcos Macedo of Brazil who touched in a time of 50.47.

He cheated on the turn at 1:52. Does a freestyle kick! That could have easily been the difference between WR and not WR.
So naturally as a swim nerd i couldnt resist find this world record swim on youtube and seeing it for myself. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQI_AagQwLQ) As i was watching it was a very impressive race and was glad to see Chad break a world record. But as the video went on to around 1:52 there is an underwater view of Le Clos turn. A blatant free kick going into the wall. When i first watched it i was dumbfounded. Still a very impressive swim but is it really a world record if the guy should have been deeqed? Too good to be true.
So naturally as a swim nerd i had to watch Le Clos 100 fly world record and i was able to find the race on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQI_AagQwLQ). Awesome race and incredible time. But as the video goes on to around 1:52 there is an underwater view of Chad’s turn…blatant free kick going into the wall. Watching it the first time i was dumbfounded and proceeded to rewind and watch multiple times. Again an impressive time but is it a true world record when he should have been deeked? Too good to be true.
Waching the fastest 100 fly final ever with 6 swimmers under 50 fifty seconds was just amazing
Chad is gona be a World record pretty soon
