It is the end of an era for the Trent Swim Club in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada (about midway between Toronto and Ottawa), as Sean Dwyer has accepted a position as the new assistant coach at the NCAA’s Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
Dwyer has been a fixture at the club: he was an athlete there from ages 10 to 19, and after leaving to run cross country at the University of Indianapolis, he returned, first for 6 years as an assistant, and for the last 8 as the program’s head coach. He was once a Junior World Triathlon Championships qualifier.
Some of the most famous swimmers out of Trent’s history include sprinter Matt Rose, a 2002 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, and Elliot Burger. More recently, the club produced Indiana University All-American Cynthia Pammett.
Dwyer will take the spot that Kyle Oaks vacated when he was elevated to the program’s head coach this summer. His wife, Nicole, whom he met in college, is an American citizen.
Wright State began its season last week by sweeping Xavier and Butler in both the men’s and women’s meets in Fishers, Indiana.
