The field was stacked in the first 10K world cup in Santos Brazil. The race featured some of the world’s best and the USA women showed their strength with Emily Brunemann scoring the gold and Eva Fabian grabbing the silver. Italy’s Rachel Brum took the bronze. Brunemann it was a very physical race and she had to take a risk and separate herself from the pack which proved to her advantage. She drew upon her experience from last year’s race on this course and took a smarter line that allowed here to capture the win. Brunemann is now training back on familier turf in Ann Arbor Michigan where she is also helping on deck with the University of Michigan’s women’s squad.
On the men’s side it was all team Italy with Romain Beraud in the top position. Federico Vanelli and Simone Ruffini captured the silver and bronze.
Next up on the FINA 10K World Cup tour is next week in Viedma Argentina. Expect more top racing as many of the top athletes from the race in Santos are expected to be on the starting list.

For all the money that FINA extorts from all the NGBs you would think they could at least post full results on their web site. Full results anybody?
That picture of the boat/feeding station on the Fina website looks risky/scary to me!
Are they giving prize money for these swims? Back in the 50’s first prize around Atlantic City was $5,000 a years teaching salary of course a lot further.
Does anyone know how the men did? The FINA website isn’t showing anything!
