Yale Closes 2023 On High Note With Sweep of SCSU In Off-Distance Dual

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In its final meet of 2023, the Yale men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams  took on Southern Connecticut. The swim portion of the meet was at Southern and the diving portion was at Kiphuth Pool.

Yale looks to be ready for the post-holiday Ivy League schedule as the Bulldogs posted several strong results. On the men’s side Lucius Brown won the 50 and 150 backstrokes. Other winners were: Finn Henry (300 free), Alexander Hazlett (50 breast), Deniel Nankov (150 fly), Jack Saber (50 free), Sungmin Kang (800 IM), Ben Meulemans (150 free) and Charlie Egeland (150 breast).

For the women, Caroline McCurdy and Caroline Riggs were double winners. McCurdy captured the 150 and 300 freestyles, while Riggs won the 50 and 150 breaststrokes. Other winners were: Sara Plunkett (50 back), Vivian Weng (150 fly), Nina Allen (50 free), Junseo Kim (800 IM) and Ele Donegan (150 back).

In the diving, Jean Paul Ditto won both the men’s 1 and 3-meter events. On the women’s side, Laurel Jin was the 3-meter winner and Hayden Henderson won the 1-meter.

The final score of the men’s meet was Yale 187, Southern Connecticut 70. The Yale women defeated the Owls 180-70.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are back in action on Jan. 13 against Dartmouth and Penn in New Hampshire.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming & diving took on Yale on Thursday, Dec. 8, with the swimming portion held at SCSU’s Hutchinson Natatorium and the diving events hosted by Yale.

500 Yard Medley Relay
The 500 Yard Relay team of Abby LyonsEmma St. HilaireHailey Nyquist and Brooke Keeney posted a time of 5:22.05.

300 Yard Freestyle
Jasmine Uricchio led the Owls in the 300 Free with a time of 3:07.75 while Molly Kennedy was close behind at 3:13.69.

50 Yard Backstroke
Abby Lyons led Southern in the 50 Back with a time of 29.77 while Keeney touched at 30.69.

50 Yard Breaststroke
Allyson Quitos led the Owls in the 50 Breast with a time of 32.62 followed by St. Hilaire at 33.85.

150 Yard Butterfly
Justice Glasgow finished third in the 150 Fly with a time of 1:37.51 followed by Uricchio at 1:38.81.

50 Yard Freestyle
Hailey Nyquist posted a time of 25.65 in the 50 Free for fourth place. Kali Dominguez finished at 26.90.

800 Yard Individual Medley
Lindsay McCawley posted a time of 9:56.78 in the 800 IM while Abbey Piech finished in 10:18.14.

150 Yard Freestyle
Arianna Arturi was fourth in the 150 Free with a time of 1:28.83 while Urrichio was close behind at 1:29.85.

150 Yard Breaststroke
Quitos led the Owls again, this time in the 150 Breast, with a time of 1:51.78. St. Hilaire followed at 1:53.70.

150 Yard Backstroke
Nyquist led the Owls in the 150 Back with a time of 1:40.30 followed by Glasgow at 1:42.58.

50 Yard Butterfly
Paola Castillo and Julia Pitchell finished neck-and-neck in the 50 Fly with Castillo finishing at 28.40 and Pitchell touching at 28.44.

500 Yard Freestyle Relay
The 500 Free relay team of Arturi, Glasgow, Castillo and Kennedy finished second with a time of 5:04.79. while the team of Piech, Dominguez, Gracie Marsh and Natalie Weier finished at 5:17.54.

1 Meter Diving
In the 1 Meter diving event Nicholle Denault posted a score of 162.53.
Southern is back in action on Friday, Dec. 8 when it travels to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace at 4 p.m.
