Ye Shiwen Wins Again, 200 IM in Olympic Record

Ye Shiwen (CHN) broke her own Olympic record in the 200 IM which she had set in semi-finals Monday night. Ye Shiwen posted a 2:07.57 to win her second gold medal of these Olympic Games, powering home in a freestyle split of :29.32. Impressive, but not as impressive as her blazing fast closing speed in the 400 IM earlier in the meet.

Alicia Coutts (AUS) took silver, with a 2:08.15 and Caitlin Leverenz (USA) picked up a bronze to round out the medals.

Controversy surrounded Ye Shiwen after her impressive win in the 400 IM. China’s new, young superstar has been at the center of suspicion regarding doping in the sport of swimming and breakout swims by Chinese swimmers.

Splits Compared:

Women’s 200m IM 50m 100m (50m) 150m (50m) 200m (50m)

bubbuh katie ledecky looks like she,s on steroids to me. Deep voice, receeding hairline etc. That girl is on steroids. And by the way, ye shiwen,s parents were into sports. Her dad was a runner and her mum was a champion long jumper. Talk about some good genes.

Your eyesight is faulty. At 5″ 10″, 140 pounds. Ledecky is very slender like most female freestyle/fly swimmers. In fact, her body dimensions are pretty close to the average for a female Olympic medalist in the free or fly events. The average American 15 year old female stand just under 5’5″ and weighs about the same as Ledecky..

It’s a good thing for all swimmers that what people believe isn’t what determines whether they have been doping.

By the way, Mary Gen Ledecky, Katie Ledecky’s mother, was ranked in the national top 20 in the 200 freestyle as a swimmer at the University of New Mexico. Unlike her mother, Katie Ledecky has had the benefit of superior training to… Read more »

Understanding typical fatigue in swimming is what raised my eyebrows with the 400 IM split.

speed reserve vs speed endurance.

every swimmer has some “in reserve” as they have to pace themselves over the length of the race. The idea is the pace optimally so that you have virtually 0 in reserve when you touch the wall. The super fast pace Ms Ye showed in the final 100 and especially the final 50m in the 400 IM shows she could’ve swam much faster than her world record. And that’s what peaking my suspicions. Her performance appears to be her personal best! but if there was another race after the olympics i’m sure she could better that performance easily.

Well they thought nothing of killing millions upon millions to kinda get over their cultural traditions that were holding them back. Ancestor worship ballet gymnastics -anything in fact that the Party were not good at was out .

If you are American I actually saw your pundit Krugman say that this might have been a good thing for it allowed them to GO Forward.

Ironic that this is on Obama’s 2012 posters . But then again MSBNC had -Lean Forward.

Which is all a bit gay.

Back to the kiddies? Well they are lucky to live to be old enough to be in sport training -they mostly get aborted .

Cheers.

Is that the UK version of NY Times? Probably not.

If Ye swims last fast for her split in the 400 i.m. – how fast would she be in the 400 free or 200 free? Seems like those would be good events for her based on her splits!

We would have to know if she could keep up the speed of a Muffat or Schmitt.. She swin the IM effortslesly because of her Amazing tech, but that does not mean she could keep up if she swam only free..

De bruin was the 400 free champ in 96 . Janet Evans was put down by President Clinton for raising questions. As if Janet could not spot a cheat. But then again Clinton was a cheat also & a liar & a manipulator of the rules.

Klochkova in 2000 also won the 400fr.. She dropped it in 2004 but was a world champ between olympics.

Steph Rice won gold as 4 X 200 2nd best split.

Hoff was a 400 fr medallist.

So it is very unusual for Ye not to be backing up in some free..

I agree with you Rafael.

Ye shiwen was able to swim fast last 50/100 because she was able to conserve much energy during her first three strokes.

It would be different case in 200/400 free, and hence I don’t think she’d be as fast in 200/400 free as people have suggested.

Everybody knows China built Firewall in the internet to BAN their people from some foreign website, suck like youtube, twwiter, but these site usually got some political issues that the government didn’t want people konw.
But to this site, there no reason for the government to do that.
China is not North Korea, though there’s firewall, many people still can talk freely about some political issues on the website, even on many website abroad. And China is changing, the government had to learn cope with people’s human rights, not just supressing them.
I HATE to talk about that topic for it’s irrelavent to this bolg. But I think
I need to tell someone that you don’t just… Read more »

They test All the winners at all hours . Phelphs was tested ‘ agnel, was tested, south african tested. Obviuosly most of you have never swma or competed at a high level in your life or you would know how often athletes are tested.,get off the chinese thing.
They gender tested a runner . To me that would be worse than veing accused of doping. Easier to prove youmare clean

Ouch… Was a runner accused of being a different gender? That’s a blow to self esteem
