Host team Schroeder Y capped off their YMCA Festival meet the same way they started it: by breaking a Y National Record in a relay. This record came in the boys 400 free relay, where Leonardo Gandaria (45.57), Ben Meulemans (43.92), Ziyad Saleem (43.93), and Jack Sullivan (44.96) combined for a 2:58.38. The swim brings the Y National Record under the 3:00 mark for the first time.

Champaign County Y picked up their first relay win in the girls 400 free relay, swimming a 3:22.82. The girls relay was a very tight race between Champaign and Schroeder Y, with Champaign anchor Reed Broaders splitting 50.68, catching and edging out Schroeder anchor Alana Berlin (51.17). Schroeder finished in 3:22.99. Champaign’s Angela Coe posted a blistering 48.68 split on the 3rd leg of the relay, marking the fastest split in the field by far.

Angela Coe also won the girls 100 free individually in last night’s session, posting a 49.45 for the only time in the field under 50 seconds. The swim was massive for Coe, who entered the meet with a lifetime best of 50.02, which she swam just a few weeks ago.

Ben Meulemans won the boys 100 free in a new personal best of 44.57. The swim undercut his previous best of 44.83, which was swum back in early February. Ziyad Saleem, who was also on the Schroeder relay, took the boys 200 back in a new best of 1:42.36. Saleem had a best time of 1:42.93 coming into the meet, which was from late December of 2020.

Schroeder’s Jack Lustig posted a sizable improvement in the boys 1650 free. He was the only swimmer in the field, clocking a 15:33.19. The swim came in 8.45 seconds under his previous best of 15:41.64, which he swam in early March. Annie Andres (BRRY) took the girls 1650 in a new lifetime best of 17:02.64.

Champaign’s Jake Regenwetter took the boys 200 breast with a 2:02.09. The swim marked a 2.83-second drop from his previous best of 2:04.92. His previous best time was swum on March 19th of this year. Tori Brostowitz won the girls 200 breast in 2:15.63, marking a new personal best. Brostowitz entered the meet with a best time of 2:16.21 from early March.

17-year-old Kate Augustyn (YCV) won the girls 200 back in 2:01.24. The swim was a new personal best for Augustyn by over a second.
