YMCA National Champion Samuel Wesley Commits to the Army Black Knights

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Samuel “Sam” Wesley, a current high school senior from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, has committed to swim for Division I United States Military Academy at West Point. Wesley will graduate from Episcopal Academy in spring 2020 and join the Army Black Knights’ class of 2024.

Wesley currently swims for the Ridley Area YMCA Stingrays. Wesley was the champion in the 200 backstroke (1:45.04) at the 2019 YMCA SCY National Championships. He is also a U.S. Open qualifier and USA Swimming All-American.

“I am thrilled and proud to announce my verbal commitment to continue my education and swimming career at the United States Military Academy at West Point! The combination of stellar academics and competitive athletics, West’s Point’s reputation for leadership development, and the opportunity to serve my country confirmed my decision. I would like to express endless thanks to my family, coaches, friends, and everyone around me who challenged and supported me to get to this point. I cannot wait to be a part of the Black Knights’ swimming and diving family, which is led by a remarkable coaching staff and an encouraging group of cadet swimmers and divers. Go Army! Beat Navy!”

With his current best times, Wesley would have made finals performances in all of his best events at the 2019 ECAC Championships. Most notably, he would have placed 1st in both the 200 backstroke (1:45.04) and 400 IM (3:54.94). He also would have placed 2nd in the 200 IM (1:49.22) and 3rd in both the 200 freestyle (1:38.62) and 100 backstroke (49.82)

At the ECAC Championships, Army placed 2nd as a team right behind their rivals at Navy.

Wesley will begin his swimming career at West Point beginning fall 2020.
