Folsom, Pennsylvania-native Gabrielle Rudy has given a verbal commitment to swim at Drexel University for the 2017-2018 season. “I chose Drexel because they offer such a strong Co-op program. I also felt as though the team and coaches were really welcoming and I felt at home with them.”

Rudy competes for Ridley High School under coach Kevin Pierce. Specializing in 200 IM and 100 breast in high school swimming, Rudy has made finals in both individual events at the PIAA AAA Girls State Championships every year of her high school career. In 2016 she placed 13th in the IM and 14th in the breast, but she has been as high as 12th in the IM.

Rudy competes year-round for the Ridley Area YMCA under coach Erik Nelson. She has qualified for finals at YMCA Short Course Nationals in both the 100y and 200y breaststrokes (she was 18th in the former and 22nd in the latter last April). Rudy swam in the B final of the 100m breaststroke at the 2016 YMCA Long Course Nationals this past summer, and placed 14th.

Her top SCY times are:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.75
  • 200 breast – 2:20.37
  • 200 IM – 2:06.55
  • 100 free – 53.54
  • 100 fly – 58.04

Rudy is a big get for the Dragons, who finished seventh in the women’s team standings, 20 points behind UNC Wilmington, at the 2016 CAA Championships. She would have added to Drexel’s total with an A-final finish in the 100 breast, and B-final finishes in the 200 breast and 200 IM.
