YNats Qualifier Katie Szum to Head to Loyola University New Orleans

Katharine (Katie) Szum, who swims for Andover/North Andover YMCA Hurricane Swim team in North Andover, Massachusetts has announced her verbal commitment to Loyola University New Orleans.

Szum qualified for her first YMCA Long Course Nationals at the age of 13 and Short Course Nationals the following spring. At the 2016 New England Swim Age Group Championship Meet last March, Szum placed 3rd in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:28.93 and won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:07.47. Primarily a breaststroker, she also swims 200 fly and 400 IM. During the 2015-16 swim year Szum updated her short course IM and breast times, and her long course IM, breast, and fly times.

Szum’s Best Times:

  • 100 Breast – 1:07.47
  • 200 Breast – 2:28.93
  • 200 Fly – 2:15.58
  • 400 IM – 4:53.15

The Wolf Pack are competing in their inaugural season this year and have just made the top 10 of the second NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving Coaches’ Poll. An affiliate member of the Mid-South Conference, Loyola joins Bethel (Tenn.), Campbellsville (Ky.), Cumberlands (Ky.), Life (Ga.), Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) as Mid-South schools that sponsor swimming.
