The national office of YMCA Swimming and Diving recently announced that YMCA of the North Shore swim coach Janet Harty is the new Regional Representative for YMCA Swimming and Diving in the New England region. Janet is the head coach of the YMCA of the Northshore (YNS) Sharks program which includes more than 500 swimmers from ages 5 to 18 across six YMCA of the North Shore locations including Beverly, Marblehead Salem, Ipswich, Haverhill, and Gloucester.
Meredith Griffin, YMCA Swimming and Diving Sports Coordinator said, “As a long time YMCA swimming parent, board member, volunteer and coach, Janet understands the positive impact of Y Swimming and Diving across all levels of involvement. She has developed strong relationships across the YMCA and USA Swimming communities and looks forward to building upon those relationships to facilitate greater understanding and cooperation in the region. We welcome Janet and look forward to working with her for the benefit of our swimmers, coaches, volunteers and YMCA community.”
Regional representatives are volunteers who serve as consultants for YMCA Swimming and Diving. They promote the growth and impact of the program, support local YMCAs in the development of their swimming and diving programs. In addition, regional representatives manage communication and administrative duties, particularly through the use of regional websites, annual team and coach registration and meet sanctioning. They are part of the YMCA Swimming and Diving Operations Council.
Executive Director of the Beverly YMCA, Judith Cronin said, “We are so excited for Janet and this opportunity that enables her to share her expertise and breadth of knowledge regionally. She does an incredible job as our Sharks Swim coach, creating a nurturing, healthy competitive environment for swimmers to excel and achieve their goals while competing at the highest level.”
