Backstroke/sprint freestyler Jordan Kohut has verbally committed to swim for the University of Richmond beginning with the 2017-18 season.
Kohut is a senior at Millbrook High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. At the 2016 4A NCHSAA State Championships in February, she finished 3rd in both the 50 free (23.49) and 100 back (54.71). She also led off the 4th place 200 medley relay (25.32) and anchored the 5th place 400 free relay (51.51). She was named a NISCA 2015-2016 All-American in the 100 back, 50 free, and 200 medley relay, Millbrook’s first All-American swims in nearly twenty years.
Kohut swims year-round for YOTA (YMCA of the Triangle Area) under Coach Chad Onken, with whom she achieved a Summer Juniors cut in the 100 backstroke, and Winter Juniors cut in the 50 free. She was a finalist at the 2016 YMCA Nationals Short Course Championships in both the 50 free and 100 back, and swam in finals on the 200 free and 400 free relays as well.
Kohut’s lifetime bests have all come during her junior year, during which she dropped half a second in the 50 and 100 freestyles, four seconds in the 200 free, over half a second in the 50 backstroke, three seconds in the 100 back, and four seconds in the 200 back. She also dropped six seconds in the 100 fly, and improved in all events during the 2016 long course season.
SCY | LCM | |

Kohut should make an immediate impact for Richmond with her arrival in the fall of 2017, as her 100 backstroke time would have won the Atlantic-10 title this past February, and her 50 free time would have also scored for Richmond in the A-final.
“The University of Richmond’s academic opportunities are amazing, the campus is beautiful, the coaching staff and team are wonderful, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice to be a Spider next fall.”
