The second of the three Arizona women’s transfers has made her decision on where she’ll land in the fall. Canadian Lindsay Seemann verbally committed to Iowa this afternoon, where she will join an improving Hawkeye team that is building a program around a new facility and a few very good distance pieces.
Seemann’s first two seasons in the college ranks have been marred by illness and a coaching transition that she says made Arizona no longer the best situation for her, but competitively this is a good fit. She’ll join a group that includes sophomore-to-be Becky Stoughton, who in her first year of college earned honorable-mention All-American in the 1650 and broke five school records.
“It shows the program is improving a lot. Becky is awesome and has a great attitude,” Seemann said of Stoughton’s freshman success.
Seemann will continue focus on the 500 free, 400 IM, and 200 back in Iowa, where she has bests of 4:45.3, 4:12.3, and 1:56.8, respectively. Those times all would have put her first-or-second on Iowa’s roster last year. She and Stoughton both have bests of 4:12.3 in the IM, which should make for great training battles.
Seemann says there were a lot of factors in the decision, but the fact that Iowa is a combined program, and has one of the top journalism schools in the country, were major factors for her.
Sounds like a very good fit.
