Zulal Zeren breaks Turkish record in prelims of Ohio State Sectional

Day one of the Speedo sectionals at Ohio State have got off to a record breaking start, courtesy of Turkish International Zulal Zeren. Zeren swam a new national record of 2.13.6 in the women’s 200m backstroke prelims which is nearly a second faster than her previous best of 2.14.52 set in Istanbul in 2013.

It has been a week to remember for Zeren after being named to the Turkish squad for next month’s World Championships in Kazan. She will be hoping to continue this form tonight’s final and make further improvements to her own national record before jetting off to Russia.

The Buckeyes were also seen to be prominent in the women’s 200m breaststroke with Taylor Vargo swimming a 2.28.9. This is a huge drop from her seed time of 2.33.37 and she will be looking to go even faster in tonight’s finals.

We’ll have a full-length recap of the meet after finals. Full results are available on Meet Mobile.
